Stage Fright! My Experience Guest Blogging on TyTribble.Com

Stage Fright My Experience Guest Blogging on tytribble.comI know we’ve all experienced stage fright at some time in our life.  The jitters, the butterflies your tummy, the excitement, the anxious anticipation, and even wanting to throw up…it’s different for everyone, but I think we’re all the same.   I was reminded of this “Stage Fright!” feeling on Wednesday when I was given the experience of guest blogging on Ty Tribble’s blog.

Being in front of an audience can make anyone nervous!

(I’ve even heard that people fear public speaking more than death!)

Well for me, being a guest blogger on was a huge honor, but required me to overcome some major fears.

Let me set the guest blogging stage:

In comparison, the experience I have blogging compared to Ty Tribble is like appearing in a preschool Christmas pageant compared to appearing on Broadway!  Ty has been blogging for many many years, I believe he’s written over 5,000 blog posts, and he’s built a tremendous following of raving fans (including me!) who get excited every time he posts.

I have been blogging consistently for only a couple of months, I’ve written a little over 50 posts, and I’m beginning to build a list of friends in the internet network marketing world that includes a few raving fans.  (I hope you know how much I appreciate you!!!)

Well, when Ty wrote a post sharing that he was thinking of inviting some of his readers to be guest bloggers on his blog, I jumped at the chance.  I knew it was a great opportunity to get more exposure and I’d be a fool to pass it up.

I was so excited when I got the email from Ty telling me that he’d like me to be his first guest blogger.  I was at lunch with my mom celebrating her birthday when I saw the email on my phone and I was thrilled…until it dawned on me that I’d be writing a post for a huge audience and the stage fright set in.

I calmed myself down and started to think about Ty’s audience.  Sure, he’s got a lot of amazing followers with a whole lot more experience than I have…but I know he’s also probably gained a lot of new followers with the launch of his free Blogging for Prospects videos and his MLM Blog Secrets training program.

And I know that after going through all of Ty’s training and implementing it in my business, I’ve got valuable information that could help beginner bloggers and I wasn’t going to let my insecurities keep me from sharing it. (A lesson I learned from clever marketer Kim DeYoung.) So that’s who I wrote to, the people I could help with the knowledge and experience I have.

Was I nervous sending the post to Ty?  YOU BET!  Was I scared to submit it on his blog?  YES!  Was I feeling a lot of stage fright when I realized he published it and his readers could see it?  DEFINITELY!  And how do you think I felt when I realized that he had emailed his whole list to let them know about my post?  I felt excited…and to be honest, I felt quite queasy!

But how do you think I feel now, after having had the honor of appearing on Ty’s blog, and having gained the experience of being a guest blogger?  I’m thrilled, proud of myself, and ready to take on the next challenge in my business!

I created a video that I hope will help you in your business to push past your fears and reach for your goals!  I’ve been doing a lot of this ” pushing past fears stuff” this week between jumping into video marketing and appearing on Ty’s blog and all I can say to you is that you have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable in your business if you’re going to grow!

Bring on the stage fright (and the guest blogging appearances)!  I’m ready for them, and excited about what the future holds for my business.  I encourage you to do the same! Go for it!  Play Full Out!  I promise you great things will happen when you push yourself to grow!

Like always, please tweet, post to facebook, and leave a comment if this was helpful to you!  You’ll get a little link love as a thank you from me!

  1. That is why I love this industry so much. If you want to succeed you have to be ready to stretch yourself in every area of your life. It requires movement forward instead of letting life just pass by you.

I am sure that the first time you wrote a blog post for your blog you were nervous as well. I know I was. But the more you do it, the easier it becomes, and better it gets. So in time, your videos will be easier to do and your videos will get better (I already think you do a great job for just jumping in). Same goes for your guest posts, which I am sure you will get more opportunities for.

Keep up the great work Heather and thank you for sharing this excellent post!

I appreciate your comment. You’re right, I was nervous the first time I blogged!

  2. Hi Heather,

I very much enjoyed your article and your video. To quiet that little voice inside you questioning whether your guest post on Ty’s blog was good enough … You absolutely nailed it! Not only was it good enough, it was a “print out and keep” article.

    Well done! Keep them coming!

  3. Hey Heather,

Congratulations on the guest blog, and thanks for this post. I am thinking of doing something which is out of my depth right now, so this post really helped me move closer to jumping in.

      Jump in Neil…the water’s great!

Thanks for your comment and good luck to you! Let me know how it goes!

  4. Hi Heather,

thanks for sharing your fears honestly. You right: People fear public humiliation more than death, it’s hard to believe but it’s just like it is.

Your post on Ty’s blog was awesome and very professional – and so are your ideas. Not the slightest sign of stage fright.

The camera seems to love you 😉

Have a blessed weekend and take care

  5. I know exactly what you mean Heather. That’s the worst feeling.

When I use to feel or when I still do, I just get on out there (sort of speak) and just do it. I know that’s not easy for everyone.

But that’s what really gets me going. Are my knees shaking? Maybe, but I like to see it as if I’m not going to push through then I run the risk of being stuck.

    I don’t want that.

    Thanks for this great reminder.

    Have yourself a great weekend,
    Jerome Ratliff

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Jerome!

It’s exhilarating to just do it…and it’s so much more fun than being stuck!

Have a great weekend yourself! Thanks for the comment!

Congrats for stretching yourself! If you are not stretching yourself to go to another level. Then you’ll go backwards.

  11. I was recently invited by someone I admire very much in the blogging world to be a guest poster, and I couldn’t turn it down. It’s a great experience for me, amazing exposure, and we’re planning on doing it once a month now.
There are definitely some butterflies when you’re looking at a readership much bigger than you’re used to… but doesn’t it feel fabulous on the other side of it?
congrats to you on your bravery to step out of your comfort zone. to feel the fear and to do it anyway.
