Clever Marketer Prove It! Blog Challenge 2011

Clever Marketer Prove It Challenge 2011Have you set your business goals for 2011 and your action plan for the first 3 months of the year yet? Do they make you feel nervous? I hope so!

Now that the New Year celebrations are over and the blank slate of 12 months lay ahead of you, how do you feel? Do you feel the excitement and anticipation because you know what you’re going to be doing this year?  Or are you a little bit sad because you’ve been here before–at the start of the new year, knowing you haven’t finished what you set out to accomplish last year?

In church this weekend, one of the phrases in a song that was sung was “He will wipe away your tears and return your wasted years.” and while that wasn’t the focus of the message, I kept thinking about how many of us set new year’s resolutions and then forget about them a few weeks after the Christmas decorations are stored away. How many wasted years have we had? How many times have we set out to accomplish something but stopped because we lost focus or burned out?

I’ve been going to the health club for about a month now. I ended up reflecting on my goals in November and acknowledging that although I’d reached some of my goals, I was pretty much in the same place I was, as far as my weight, that I was at the beginning of 2010. I had wasted the year in that area of my life.

Something within me helped me to realize that the year is going to pass and before I know it I will be reflecting on 2011 and setting goals for 2012. I can make a decision to be in a different place when that time comes, or I can remain the way I am. The time is going to pass either way.

I want to help you reach your business goals in 2011!

I want you to be successful! I want to be for you, what the 5 clever marketers of 2010 were for me. Your coach, your cheerleader, your teacher, and your drill sergeant.  You can reach your business goals in 2011!  And we’re going to reach them together!

I have a blog challenge for you. The details are below.

But first, I want to share a story with you…

I was on the phone with my mom, and we’d been talking long enough that I remember it felt hot against my cheek. I was crying and my eyes stung from the tears. I remember being on a ‘rant’ that probably sounded like this:

“I know I can do it! I have what it takes to be successful in this business! I’ve done the trainings, I’ve attended the seminars, I’ve invested in myself, read every personal development book, audio, and home study program available. I’m just as smart or smarter that many of the successful people in my upline and company.

Mom, I know that deep down, I was made for something more. If I could just do what I know I need to do, I know I can fly in this business. I know could do it.”

I was stuck because I didn’t know exactly what to do next. I felt insecure and I didn’t know if people would really want to listen to what I had to say. I used excuses like they were going out of style. I let myself be stuck because I was afraid to face my fears.

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, and then my mom’s soft voice spoke two simple words that changed the path of my life, “Prove It!”

The words about knocked the wind out of me. I had been studying, learning, and watching others online achieve success in their home based business. And now she was daring me to put that studying, learning, and watching to work.

I’m a sucker for a dare. She knows it, and after probably about 10 of these types of calls over the last couple of years, she finally called me on it.

I want to do that for you now! To call you out on your dreams and goals…the ones that make you scared…and lay down a challenge to help you prove it to yourself that you can do this!

Please watch the video below, and then scroll down for the details of the challenge:

    Thanks for sharing ;).

      Hi Devesh!

I’m glad you like the idea. I was stretching my own comfort zone committing to this myself, but I’m excited to have others joining. Please feel free to join in whenever you are able to. You’re always welcome!

  7. I can’t promise to devote that amount of time, but I hope to join in the same amount of success with everyone. In the last week my blog has went down 70,000 in alexa rankings! My girlfriend and I are having a baby boy in April so most of my posts will be scheduled anyway around that time. Yes, I know I’ve never said anything about this … I’m gunna be a Daddy! Not just a Dad, but a good one too.

I’ll be around as much as I can, but sometimes I have to run out and find random pregnant food for the lady of the house. She’s been on a chicken wing kick lately.

    • Heather Stephens says:

I love your commitment to your baby! Congratulations! I remember sending my husband out for burritos at 10:30 at night once or twice in our 3 pregnancies!

I am excited about your alexa rankings! It’s been exciting to see mine drop with consistent blogging and I’m sure that if you keep up your hard work it’s going to continue to plummet!

      Way to go!

      • Yeah, I’m still adjusting to the thought of a little version of me running around, but he’ll be here soon. I’ve got a really great partner in the whole thing though, she’s everything to me.

I’ll keep you updated. I know there will be pictures … lots and lots of pictures.

        • Heather Stephens says:

I’ll look forward to the pictures, so for sure send them to me!!! 🙂

And, you never really adjust to parent hood. The minute you adjust to something, they grow, change, and enter a new stage. lol

It’s all part of the fun!

    • Wow, congratulations, Jared! This time last year I was expecting our second daughter. Time flies!

Enjoy every minute, they grow so fast! 🙂

      All the best,

    • Congrats Jared!!!

How exciting. Being a parent is life changing, and I have no doubt that if you put your mind to it, you’ll be a kick a$$ dad. 😉

      • Jared, I don’t even know you… but can’t keep my trap shut on this one. Its’ the BEST! Congrats. I never planned on children… but obviously someone did! I am so thankful. I was 38 with my daughter and 40 with my son. Today my daughter is 8 years old and it seems like only a few months ago I brought her home. They are the most awesome blessing and like Heather says… as soon as you get used to one stage you move on to the next…. Huge Congrats…. and many blessings too! ~Jayne~

        • Heather Stephens says:

Jayne, I LOVE that you couldn’t keep your “trap shut” here! Happy Birthday to your daughter! My daughter just turned 9 around Thanksgiving and my son just turned 3 right before Christmas. I totally know what you mean that it feels like months since we brought them home from the hospital!

Jared…you’re in for an awesome ride! 🙂

          Hugs, Heather

  8. Hey Heather, What great fun and a great challenge. Count me in.

    • Heather Stephens says:

Awesome Liz! Glad you’re going to be part of it too!

  9. Hi Heather,

wow, now that’s very powerful. Really huge, as a matter of fact. I am tempted to say “Yes” but I will have to check my schedule – I am surely able to create the amount of content required but half of is supposed to be in German (mainly videos). Otherwise, 70 pieces of English content plus the German content – I think I would be unable to commit to that. What do you think ?

Thanks for launching that challenge !

    Take care

    • Heather Stephens says:

I think it’s up to you and how you feel about it. I would think that even if your content were some German and some English that it would be ok if it fits into your marketing plan for your business. The only challenge will be that it’s hard for us to syndicate and support you on the content you’re creating in a different language.

I would recommend that you think about it over the weekend and see if some of your English content can be re-purposed into German or something like that to help you leverage the work you’ve already done.

The challenge starts Monday, so there is time to think about it.

Hope it works out and you join us, but you know what is best for you! 🙂

  10. Hey Heather…

Love the video and the post. Brilliant idea. People love a challenge don’t they?

I know that my other commitments will not allow for quite the level of content you suggest, so sadly I can’t participate in the group (but I love the concept – it will be really interesting to see how everyone goes).

Instead I will set my own parallel goals and meet them just the same.

Thanks for the inspiration Heather, I’m sure your support is appreciated and valued by many people! All the best,

    • Heather Stephens says:

      Hi Jym,

I respect that it’s not right for everyone, and to be honest I set the goal because it was a challenge for me. It’s a lot of content over a sustained period of time and not everyone is at a place in their lives where they can commit to it.

I would love you to share your parallel goals if it will help you with accountability, and you know I’ll be commenting and supporting you as a part of the tribe!

Cheering for you in your business, no matter what!

      • Thanks for the kind support Heather!

I think you have it exactly right. It’s about setting yourself a challenge which pushes your current boundaries further.

I just know that at the moment, 5 posts a week simply isn’t within my time budget, not at the quality level I’d like to produce. I’ll definitely take the challenge for 4 though!

        Thanks! count me in!

  11. Heather, DEFINITElY count me in!! And yes this is making me breathless & nervous at the same time to commit but I have always thrived on a competitive challenge so i’m all for it! I know that its a huge commitment but I often find that when I sincerely commit to something that results are just waiting to happen!!:)It looks daunting to me but also very exciting so I’m on for the ride!!

As I was reading all the rules, I was thinking wow, how can I ever measure up to this wonder woman??? You have been working long & hard obviously & I am proud of what you are offering here. I also know that one day I will be able to offer similar value to the online community!!

    Thanks Heather!!

    • Hi Karlene!

I know you’ve got a lot on your plate with your hubby right now, so I’m even more proud of you that you’re stepping up to the challenge to do this! Awesome girl! Daunting is only a perception. You have a gift for writing, and you need to nurture it and allow it to grow. Plus being part of the challenge will help you to grow your blog’s traffic, opt ins, and ultimately your business…which will help you in reaching your why!

Promise yourself that you will let your husband be your why instead of your why not right now! 🙂

      {{hugs}} my friend!

  12. Heather,

Great way to challenge people with your own challenge. That is what it takes sometimes is to hold people accountable.

I wish I was able to participate but due to other commitments I will have to watch and look for the results.

I am going to try to increase my new posts from 1 to about 2-3 a week.

Good luck to all the participants!

    Tommy D.

    • Hi Tommy,

Thanks for your comment. 🙂 Good luck in your personal challenge to increase your posts to 2-3 a week. More frequent posting has been huge for me in growing my blog’s traffic and list!

      Good luck!

  13. Heather – I think this is a very great contest to be a part of, but unfortunately I cannot participate because me and my wife just started a business and I need to put most of my effort there.

However, I am definitely looking forward to reading the unique content the people that participate bring to the table. I do have a blogging friend that would really love the exposure this contest can give him and his blog so I will refer him to this article and see if he will enter. Good luck to all the participants.

    • Heather Stephens says:

      Hi John,

I totally understand and it’s great that you’re staying so focused on your business! That’s what it’s all about.

Please do stop by and read the content on our facebook group as well as everyone’s blogs! And I would love you to invite your blogging friend who needs the exposure. It will absolutely help… I believe that to my toes!

      Happy weekend,

  14. What a fantastic challenge Heather!

But I have to be realistic. I would like to write more blog posts but my day job is challenging.

However, like Tommy I really should write more than my one post every couple of weeks.

So my challenge to myself starting today (notice not next week) is to write 2 blog posts a week.

  15. Count me in!

Thanks for hosting Heather! It’s a great idea!

  16. Hi Heather,

I just love this post and the accompanying video. I always love challenges and appreciate the fact that while good intentions are sought to complete it, even if it is not totally fulfilled, growth will occur in the motion taken in the process.

You have a great thing going here and appreciate this challenge.

    • Aloha Nelly,

Thank you so much! There are so many good things that can come from a challenge: self confidence, developing good habits, stretching our comfort zones, improving our writing skills, networking and developing relationships, growing our blog traffic, growing our opt-in list, growing our businesses, helping others, teaching others, learning ourselves, on and on, and on and on. 🙂

So, Nelly, are you in? If so, please come join the group on facebook:

  17. I am impressed by your quality to work for challenging targets but I am too lazy but I am too consistent about my targets. I have got URL to start my business of gems ( stones ).After the launch of my business I will sure launch my own blog that will be related to free teaching of programming languages.

  18. What an incredible way to think outside the box, Heather!

Love your heartfelt talk with your mom – thanks for sharing; most of us, has been or maybe be even still are there. It’s always great to know we are not alone.

But it’s even better to know that there’s something we can do about it, like STEP OUT and act – exactly what you are doing right now.

    • Heather Stephens says:

Thanks for the sweet comment, Ana! I’m having so much fun stepping out and it’s like a quest to see how far I can step with the faith that God will place something firm to land on in front of me. 🙂

I know that I’ve done a lot so far to “prove it” to myself that I can do this, but there will always be those conversations in my head, I’m sure, when I’m stretching my comfort zone. Having the accountability of a challenge, for me, is a great way to hold true to my commitments to myself.

I’m always great at keeping commitments I make to others, but frequently don’t hold myself to the commitments I make for myself. I hope this helps a lot of other people…but honestly, there was a little selfish interest in creating it as well!

Have an awesome weekend! Hoping there’s a ‘coffee date’ tomorrow on your blog! I really enjoyed last week’s!

      • I am not sure when those inner conversations end, Heather.

For me, they ended when I stopped caring and went all out. There’s no other choice, but to make it.

        • Heather Stephens says:

I love that attitude…I hope if I’m on the brink of that?

This challenge was totally impulsive and inspired from within and I didn’t give myself time to doubt, until it was time for me to push publish on the post. It’s apparent that I’m still stretching and feeling the tug of my “muscles” resisting.

I’m committed now. I feel like I did the weekend before my c-section with my son. I remember laying in bed, nervous thinking…well, I’m committed and there’s no other choice but to go through with it. 🙂 LOL

It’s good to know that they do end, Ana. Thanks for the reassurance!

  19. Wow Heather!

This post is so full of energy and excitement. I LOVE it!

I want to say yes to your challenge, but that is almost exactly how much time I have left with my husband before he deploys for a year.

I cannot commit to it knowing that I may occasionally drop everything and take a day off here and there to spend with him before he leaves.

I’m looking forward to all the great content you’ll be putting out from this challenge though. 😉 Totally awesome idea. You’ve impressed me yet again.

    • Susanna,

I totally understand your competing commitment!

Jym is participating for the accountability and support, but not doing the challenge because he’s only committing to doing 4 posts per week. You are welcome to join the group and set your own goals if you want the support and accountability, without a chance at the prizes. 🙂

Anything I can do to help you, and support you…please let me know!

  20. Heather, my business partner, Cheryl Wilms, and I are committing to your challenge. We’re currently doing a blog challenge that ends at the end of the month and we’d love to start yours at that point. Thanks so much! I love this post and the video gave me chills!

    • Heather Stephens says:

Cheryl and Leanne: WELCOME! (That’s an excited shout not an angry one!!!) Please join us…the goal is 70 posts by the 15h of April. 🙂 I’m thrilled the video spoke to you too. I have watched it several times when I was taking a risk and needed a little mental push.

      Happy weekend!

  21. Heather, about the challenge… I would REALLY love to participate. I am going to think about it tonight and check all my ‘to do’ list… as I have so much on it… and have to determine the order of priorities. I think a challenge like this might be just what the doctor ordered… and it will be even a challenge to tweak an actual schedule… which will be necessary in order to slot the challenge activities. It’s more of an accountability thing for me. Wonderful idea. I will re read the post again… and maybe again… and determine over the weekend. My first week of 2011 was not as I had imagined as I have lost a long time friend and it naturally has squished my focus.. once again. I’ll be back at you soon and thanks for pushing your own boundaries. Its nice to have some company. ~Jayne~

    • Heather Stephens says:

Jayne, I’m sorry to hear about your friend. Someone else in the challenge just lost a loved one too, and she’s going to join in for the second week and get caught up. If you need to do that, it’s totally ok. The goal is 70 posts by the 15th…pacing ourselves is best, but life does happen. That’s why I only scheduled 5 posts per week and not one every day like some other challenges.

You will know what is right for you, but I want to encourage you to do what your instincts tell you, not what your head tells you. I’ve stopped listening to my head because it lies to me all the time. It always comes up with excuses like I’m too busy, I’ve already committed to too much, etc. As I said in my post about 3 WAHM Lessons to help you grow a home based business and a family: there IS enough time to do the important things.

Let me know if I can help you in your decision making at all. 🙂

  22. Heather,

I am really impressed with the challenge that you have put together! I can tell that it’s going to be a great challenge.

I have been debating with myself if I can do this challenge because I really want to do it! I have a newborn (as you know) and I have already committed to a personal development challenge for the month of February. But like you said the challenge is designed to help meet our goals and I really don’t want to pass up this opportunity.

I will give it my all and take up the challenge!

Thank you for setting this all up!

    • Heather Stephens says:

      Hi Stacy!

I know the internal debate. I didn’t give myself time to really debate this one, but to be totally transparent, I did take a great big breath as I pushed Publish! 🙂 LOL

You are going to rock it with this Stacy. Your blog is already fantastic…just think about how awesome it will be to double your traffic (and then some) and how many more people you will be helping with your powerful content as a result of this challenge!

I’m so excited you’re joining us. It will give me a chance to really get to know you better! I see your new title being: Super Mom Blogger of 2011!

      See you tomorrow! 🙂

  23. I am in this will defiantly keep me aligned with my goals for my blog.

    • Heather Stephens says:

      Hi Sheena!

I’m thrilled you’re joining us! Congratulations on taking a leap of faith with us! It’s going to be so much fun!!!

  24. Hi Heather,
Okay… Okay… Okay! I’m in! I said it… Now, Let’s ROCK THE HOUSE! YEAH! This is going to rock it for me and I’m so thrilled to learn from YOU!

I’m very nervous about this as last week I just launched my blog and had all kinds of success and bumps in the road!

I’m listening to my heart and following it… it’s going to be a ride of my life and I’m ready… I can’t wait to see where this Hot Vehicle (mmm… we call it my Harley) is going to take me in 3 months.

Heather, I’m unemployed right now… I have a seasonal job and will be going back to work April 1… so I look at this as my job right now … 5 days a week to get my blog producing results and teach me technics that I can use everyday with my blog that will help me out when I go back to work!

To learn all I can right now while I have time and build awesome new frienships along the way… how can anything be more fun!

    Let’s Rock Baby!!!

Oh Christina! I’m so excited you’re making this decision! I’ve been thinking about you and hoping that you will decide to join us!

You totally are “crushing it” with the launch of your blog and I believe that with some momentum building activity like this you are going to totally surprise yourself with what you are capable of! 🙂

We are going to have so much fun, and you have no idea how inspired I am by you and what you’re doing in spite of the challenges you’re dealing with that you’ve shared so far!

Girl…you are incredible and I’m excited to be getting to know you through this opportunity to prove it to ourselves!!!

      WooHoo! 🙂

  25. Heather, I’m back again. There are SO many things I need to get done on my blog. One is a makeover, and another is to get it more functional. It has issues. It takes me so long to post a post due to so me glitch… that slows it down to the point to making me want to make my laptop ‘fly’… – not only that but a few things have surfaced as you know that I need to get out of the way…. BUT…. this opportunity is one that I feel would be most beneficial in ‘getting out there’ and forcing myself to stick to a stringent schedule… which I need to do….

SO… having said that – 70 posts will be a “challenge”…. but that’s exactly what it’s supposed to be right???

With cautious optimism (to do with my own ‘stretching”) & though I’m just about ready to have a kitten….Count me in!!

Woo Hoo… what a ride it will be… (Thanks for the push) ~Jayne~ 🙂

I’ve got goosebumps about this decision you made! 🙂 You are so incredibly awesome to be taking a leap of faith on this. I’m excited for what is about to happen in your life.

Do me a favor, stand in front of a mirror this morning, look into your beautiful eyes, and remind yourself that you are worth every “challenge,” every scary hill you are about to climb, and every ounce of determination you have to muster up, in order to reach your goal! Remind yourself that you believe in yourself and that you will trust your heart to lead you. 🙂

What a ride it will be! I’m honored you’re joining me!

      Sending you hugs!

  26. This sound great. I am in.

    • Heather Stephens says:

Welcome to the Prove It Challenge!!

  27. Hi Heather,
Okay, to not participate would be sheepish. So………..count me in! Oh yeah!

    • Heather Stephens says:

      Hi Joe!

Oh yeah! I’m so excited you’re here and you decided to join us in the challenge!

  28. Hey Heather! Am I in trouble or what! Since I am new at this and still “wet behind the ears”, I have no idea what any of this means!!! How funny is that! I have a lot of research and self education to do on this!

      Hi April!

Wow! Way to step up your goals and join in! I’m excited for you and happy to help answer your questions. I’m staring a Beginner Blogger Q and A series which is inspired by your comment here and some of the other questions I’m receiving!

Keep asking for help from the group! It gives you a chance to learn, it gives others ideas for helpful content, and everyone wins!

      Keep it up!

  29. Hi, Heather! It’s better late than never, but I accept your challenge! I can’t wait to learn and grow from your challenge!

    • Heather Stephens says:

      Hi Steve,

I’m so thankful that you’re joining us. I love reading your content and I look forward to all the great things you’ll be creating in the challenge!

  30. How fabulous is this! I so want to commit to this but don’t know if I can due to other commitments. You know what? I’m going for it 😉

    • Heather Stephens says:

      Hi Golda!

You are such a cool gal! I’m so excited that you’re joining me in the challenge and looking forward to getting to know you better because of it!

      Keep it up!

  31. Thanks Heather. You are awesome too ! 🙂

  32. Hi Heather

As Steve says, ‘better late than never’! I’ve only just seen you post in Unified Tribe but I’m going to hop on board and give it a go! Thanks for all the hard work that you must have put in to set this up and for FREE to boot!

    • Heather Stephens says:

      Hi Kisane!

Welcome to the challenge. We are all lucky that you decided to join us! I’ll be looking forward to all your great content and getting to know you better through the next few months!

      Yea for you!

  33. Heather,
I came across your challenge and you definitely have me thinking!
You touched my heart when you told the story about your Mom challenging you. You are so lucky to still have her. I’m going to check my schedule and think seriously about this – I too love a dare.
    Fabulous idea and fabulous challenge,

  34. Bryan Salek says:

The new site has been up for almost 2 months with no content because i’m still searching for the perfect plugins and trying out themes and headers. This is exactly what i need, though I’m nervous that i’m already a day behind and have no plan for my content. In the words of the great Larry the Cable Guy, “Git ‘er done!”

    Thank you for the motivation.

    • Bryan Salek says:

I guess i should have checked the dates…i’m a week behind!!

    • Heather Stephens says:

      Hi Bryan,

You are not behind. I hope you’ll still join us! There is plenty of time to get caught up and there are several people who got started late last week and even this week so far.

Think about the progress you’ll make by playing a bigger game and hanging out with all the other marketers who are committing to pushing themselves as well.

      It’s a great environment!

Bryan, I so hope you jump in with both feet and say YES to your goals!

  35. This sounds like a great challenge. However, I’ll have to do my own challenge along with you guys as I’ve just recently moved from 1 post a week to 2 and so I’ll make my challenge be 3 posts a week (trust me, that’s a challenge within itself!)…

What’s crazy is that I’m sure I have more than 70 headlines/article ideas in my swipe file. It’s just actually developing them and getting them onto the blog that’s the actually challenge! 🙂

    • Heather Stephens says:

Please join us on the prove it facebook group so you can get the support and encouragement from the group. There are a few marketers who are working on their own lower challenges due to extenuating circumstances in their lives, but who are taking advantage of the accountability the group offers. 🙂

Glad you’re pushing yourself! Keep it up!

  36. Awesome Heather for laying it out on the line. I know that you will be very successful with this challenge, and I love the fact that you have willing volunteers for this!

    Go Heather!

  37. Ok, this scares the pants off me, but I made myself a promise that I was going to make it happen this year and actually take myself seriously. I want to say, “I know I won’t make it to 70,” but it’s exactly that kind of thinking that’s kept me working for other people and not staying true to myself.

I know it’s late, but I’m in! Brand-spanking-new to mompreneurship, but I’m going for gold, Heather! Count me in.

  38. I just found you on Twitter. I am surprized that I never heard of you before. You have a great challenge with great prizes. I need to get a blog that I own. This one is on so they own it.

Have you heard what is happening with silver? Inflation is causing the dollar to lose value every onth so that makes silver go up in value as a precious metal. But new electronic things create a large need of silver in industry.

In 2010 silver never got as high as $31 an ounce (just below it). Now silver is $34.69 an ounce (2 months later).

Last 10 years silver went up 700%–gold up 500%. Last 2 years silver up 176%-gold up 60%. 2010 silver up 78%-gold up 29%. Get ETFs like SLV. SLV (iSilver Shares Trust) buys and sells online just like a stock but just holds 10.9 billion dollars in silver.

  39. Hello Heather!

Really like the recording and the submit. Outstanding thought. I always love challenging don’t they? Well, an individual carressed my heart once you informed the story about your Mommy challenging you. You are therefore blessed to be able to have the girl. I’m likely to check my routine as well as believe seriously about this.

You can count me in too.
