My MLM Blog SEO Audit by Ana Hoffman and My Profectionism

MLM Blog SEO Audit by Ana Hoffman Traffic Generation Cafe & PerfectionismI was an art major and went through hundreds of critiques on my personal work, and I should have a thicker skin by now, but nothing could have prepared me for the audit Ana Hoffman from Traffic Generation Cafe did on my MLM blog SEO.

I spoke with Ana a couple of days ago on Skype and she mentioned that she was doing an audit on my blog SEO. (I had volunteered when she asked our tribe if anyone would like to participate.)

Typical for me, I went into my habitual, “night before the critique” fear, wondering what she was going to say.

MLM Blog SEO Critique Deja Vous:

I had a similar experience when I was chosen for the MLM blog critique by Ty Tribble and Ann Sieg in the MLM Blog Code bonus webinar.

I went into the webinar with Ty and Ann, nervous, but prepared to accept whatever they suggested and implement it on my blog.  And I approached the blog SEO audit by Ana the same way.

At first glance, I cannot deny that it did sting a little, but after reading it through to the end, I was blown away by the gift I had just been given.

(I’ll continue with this thought in a minute, but I have to sidetrack for a moment to bring you up to speed.)

My battle to give up perfectionism in order to get my MLM blog launched:

I’m trying to live by the core belief that progress made imperfectly is better than having perfect intentions.  This is a new lifestyle choice for me, and one that I’m constantly having to work on through some intense self discipline around the topic.

You see, I spent over a year trying to wrap my head around attraction marketing, understand how it all fit together and how it worked.  Then I spent another year trying to figure out how to get my business online.  I’ve purchased SO many products that were supposed to be the answer to all my problems, but unfortunately, they weren’t.  The problems were not as simple as attraction marketing, or blog SEO. They were inside of my head, my limiting beliefs.

I hit a turning point this summer.  With my husband stuck in a frustrating job, commuting over 2 hours a day so our kids could be in the school district of our choice.  I was tired of playing small. I’d been building my network marketing business in my warm market and through word of mouth referrals, and by practical purposes, I was receiving a fairly decent residual income check every month from my growing team, so I could call myself “successful”.  But, I knew inside that I wasn’t playing full out.  I was doing just enough to get just enough.

I am on a mission to bring my husband home. That’s my goal, my why is my family–they are so very important to me–and I will not stop until I can give my husband the gift of waking the kids up in the morning, going to Halloween plays, and school field trips…and every other tiny milestone our kids have.

My MLM Blog Secrets–Secret Promise to Myself:

So I made a promise to myself when I took the MLM Blog Secrets and MLM Blog Code* this summer, that instead of just “learning” I was going to implement everything I learned in every module before I went on to the next one.  I also set a time limit that I would accomplish each module by (one a day).  This training course was truly life changing for me.  But not because of the training.  Yes, it’s a great training program to teach you how to get your blog set up and blog SEO basics, social media, attract leads, etc.   But the life-changing part was the fact that it was one of the first times I’ve stayed focused long enough to actually complete the course and get myself actively blogging.

It got the fly-wheel turning.  I’ve since taken several other courses. I’m going through my hard drive and implementing all the incredible resources I have…as well as learning from so many other great bloggers in the MLM blog world.

My Blog SEO Audit:

Which brings me back to Ana.  I would never have had the opportunity to have my mlm blog audited by her, or had the opportunity to know what I need to work on and improve for my SEO had I not overcome my perfectionism and just done what I knew, with what I had, from where I was.

I don’t know where you are in your business right now, but I’m here to tell you that we ALL battle fear, perfectionism, self doubt, etc…but sitting on the side of having blogged for 4-5 months, made mistakes, learned from some, and making more (probably in this very post), I’m here to tell you that it’s the absolute best experience I’ve ever had in my business.

I’ve got a major to-do list to work on, thanks to Ana sharing her brilliant mind with me.  And you will be seeing lots of changes on this blog in the weeks and months to come. I hope you’ll give me feedback on what you like and what you think could be improved upon.

I’m still practicing.  That’s what this business and this mlm blog is all about. I’m “practicing” in social media, blogging, and marketing strategies.  I’m applying them here to see what works and what doesn’t.  I’m not perfect, but I’m so glad for the bumps and bruises I’m getting while playing the game.  They are the best “training course” anyone could have.

And I’m so very grateful for Ana for auditing my blog.  Ana, I will be implementing everything you’ve mentioned in your post!  I’m thankful to have met you and thankful for your awesome gift of knowledge that you shared with me.

To everyone reading this…please go visit Ana’s post and see what she had to say about my blog and apply it to your own blog.  While you’re there, download her 7 Steps to Complete Search Engine Domination, read it and implement it!

Then please share this post in social media and please comment on your experiences with your blog, SEO, feedback on my blog, etc!  You’re on a do-follow blog so you will get some link-love from me. 🙂

P.S. You know how we become blind to clutter in our homes because we see it every day?  Take a look at your blog as a first time visitor…and as Google.  What would you say if you were to do a Blog SEO audit on your blog?

  1. Wow Heather,

your WHY is so powerful that its vibrations drove the tears into my eyes ! Congratulations to your WHY and thank you for sharing it and your story.

There can be no doubt about it that you will make it and eventually bring your husband home, he is a truly blessed guy.

Thinking big and playing big is just as important as paying attention to important details, like those outlined by Ana in her brillant blog audit.

Robert Kiyosaki says that you have to think big and small at the same time, otherwise the whole building might eventually fall apart.

Thank you again for sharing your insights.

    Take care

    • Heather C Stephens says:

Thank you Oliver. I always chuckle with my teammates because I know we’ve hit success in our discussions about their why, when we find the why that makes them cry. And to be truthful, I feel like the blessed one in my relationship with my husband.

I do need to pay attention to details, you’re so right. Thankfully now, after Ana’s post, I know what details to pay attention to! 🙂

Before then, I didn’t know what to look for in several of the areas she brought to my attention.

Thanks for your comment, as always. I’m thankful for you, Oliver.

  2. Hey Heather,

What a moving post! No doubt, this is coming from the bottom of your heart 🙂 I’m truly inspired…

I can relate to your WHY too… I’m doing this for my family and every single day brings me closer to my goals.

We’re going to ROCK it big time, Heather… I know it!

Congrats on your blog audit, I’m sure you got amazing feedback from Ana – the girl knows her stuff 🙂

My blog is in the queue too and naturally, I’m nervous about it. However, I know my blog is going to change for the better.

I’m off to check out your blog feedback and I look forward to the new changes on your blog.

    To Girl Power!

      Hi Mavis,

Your reply is from the heart and I really want you to know how much I can relate to you and your why. Every little action brings us closer.

Don’t be nervous about the critique from Ana. It truly is a gift when looked at in the way Ana intends it; to teach us and her readers. And when we take what she teaches and apply it to our blogs, we’ll be the ones to benefit from the result of more traffic and higher rankings!

      To girl power! 🙂

      • Thanks, Heather.

I agree and that’s the reason why I have requested the audit – I know that Ana’s critique will help me take my blog to a whole new level! 🙂

        All the best,

        • Heather C Stephens says:

I’m excited to see your blog Audit! 🙂 You’ve got an awesome blog, Mavis. I always enjoy reading it.

  3. Hello Heather,

First of all, I’m glad that you appreciate what I did. Honestly, it was not easy and I was nervous as well because I am not sure how you or others might react but I know that you know my good intentions and that I have no choice but to share my views and ideas so that we can all learn from it. Thank you so much for that opportunity, I’m so glad I did the blog auditing with you.

As to your why, I can totally relate to that. Our family is the most important reason why we are doing this and striving really hard to achieve success. I’m so proud of you for all that you’ve done and still doing including all the necessary changes that you gladly accepted.

All the best to you and your family,

    • Heather C Stephens says:

I totally know that what you did for me wasn’t easy. You worked so hard on my blog audit and I am so very grateful. I knew where your intentions were with it, and I think everyone else did as well.

Our family really is the center of our why, especially for us moms who are led by our hearts.

I hope to make you so-very proud when you see all the changes on my blog. I do have some questions and I’ll be getting to them next week when I get my sick computer back. 🙂

Thanks again, Ana. Looking forward to your next Friday Blog Audit!!!

      • I just re-read your post one more time, Heather, and was reminded once again of my own internet marketing journey.

Going big is the only way for us to go, don’t you think? Otherwise, why are we in this business to begin with? 🙂

Thanks again for the opportunity to audit your blog.

I must say, it looks FABULOUS!

        All the best.

        • Heather C Stephens says:

You’re so right. Going big is the only way for us to go! 🙂

I’m so glad you like the changes…I’ve have lots more work to do, but baby-steps will get me there.

          Thanks for everything,

  4. Ana rocks.. even though the audit was kinda harsh – she did it with the best intentions. I gotta say, your blog is looking awesome. I’m sure you’re still working on the details.

Heather, you’re a trooper. I can see how bad you want this by the words in this post – it was DEEP! There’s no doubt in my mind that you’re gonna make it. You won’t let yourself quit, and that’s great.

oh and.. have you tried a wider opt-in form for your “in-post” form, so your readers wouldn’t have to scroll down so much to comment? – just a suggestion :0)

    talk soon

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Hector,

Ana does rock! You do too…I’ve learned a lot from you and I love the look of your blog as well. I so appreciate your suggestion about the “in post” form. I will definitely give that a try. Please keep the suggestions coming!

I won’t let myself quit. No-way. And with friends like you to “keep up with” I’ll for sure have that accountability to keep me from slacking. 🙂

      Thanks Hector, for everything,

  5. Heather, you are an inspiration.

And so are all of the commenter’s.

And look at all of the great changes you have made so far on your blog.

Friends helping friends, that is what it is about.

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Thanks Peter.

I appreciate all the help my friends (both new and old) have given me as I’ve gotten started on this whole “blogging” journey.

You’re right. That is what this whole thing is all about.

      Thanks for your comment!

  6. Heather,

    Really awesome post.

You really hit it on the head when you mentioned all these different programs out there and you think it will all come together.

Then the next one comes out and your off to the race again.

I’ve done that and now done with that.

Ana is one cool blogger. Her critique of your blog was really good and hope it helps you to continue down the road to success. You blog is always filled with such great content.

Also, as far as your blog comments are probably the best out there. Always filled with useful information that takes the post itself to another level.

    Thanks for everything you provide.

    Keep it up!
    Tommy D.

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Tommy,

Thanks for the comment on my content and the blog comments. 🙂 I feel like lately, I’m struggling to keep up with them, but I so enjoy commenting on other blogs and connecting with my blog readers as well. It’s the “relationship” part of it all. 🙂

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the product overload. I get amazed that even when I know the psychology behind the product launches, scarcity, social proof from testimonials, the “conversation in our minds” as we read the sales letters, that I still feel the tug to purchase.

It’s getting better. I’m focusing on purchasing “tools” not training lately. Things to help me leverage my time and efforts. I probably have everything I need on my hard drive to carry me for quite a while. 🙂

      Thanks for your comment, Tommy!

  7. Hi Heather…
Your “why” is so dear to my heart & I would guess if we did a survey of network marketing Moms, we would likely find most of their “whys” in the same category! Most of us live & breathe for our families well being & success & what a motivation to help us keep on keeping on!!

This is what your content did for me this time…get rid of all your fears & perfectionism & (big one) PROCRASTINATION & just DO IT!!! So off I go & thanks again for all your inspiration my friend!! And also I am off to read Ana’s blog, I look forward to the day when my content is “audited” so hats off to you for your great strides in making your “why” become reality!!

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hey Karlene!

I’m so proud of the progress you’re making in your business and I’m very grateful for your coaching sessions…I think I get more out of them than you do! 🙂

I love situations like the blog audit from Ana because it’s such a fantastic way to learn something new…and then it gives me more knowledge which helps me have more value to offer others.

Hopefully by me being the guinea pig, you can pick up some tips to apply to your blog too! 🙂

Thanks for your comment and congratulations for Just Doing It! Implement, Implement, Implement…

  8. Hey Heather,

Wow, this is great. Your humility is very moving to me. After implementing some of the changes Ana has suggested, I can tell you that your blog is performing much better already.

And thanks for reminding me of your WHY, which reminds me to look at my WHY again.

I decided to go online, because of the wrong intentions. I thought it was going to be a shortcut to success, because I was very afraid to talk to my warm market.

I was wrong, building online is every bit as challenging as building with a warm market. But it is equally gratifying as well. I’m still working on my deep down beliefs that don’t necessarily serve me.

I know that changing my mindset is going to make the biggest difference to my results.

    Have a great day,

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Wayne,

Thank you for commenting. I hope that by re-focusing your why is a meaningful experience for you.

I have found that as I’ve been in my business and reached various goals and milestones, that my why has changed. At first it was to make a little extra money so I could stay home with my kids. Then it was to buy a bigger house for our growing family. Now it’s to bring my husband home. Ultimately it’s so that I can help more people, give more time and money to causes that are meaningful to me. Right now, my focus is on Wes.

I spin my wedding ring when I get nervous and it helps me to remind myself why I’m doing this, and gives me the strength to do it in spite of the fear.

I think many of us get into our businesses or decide to build online, by leads, etc. because we think it’s going to be a faster road to success, but really all it does is expose the next “life lesson” we have to face before we can move forward.

Thanks for your comment! I appreciate it.

  9. WOW! Heather this is one very profound post…

The highlight of the post for me is this – “progress made imperfectly is better than having perfect intentions”

It is so vital to keep moving forward, without it we are stagnating. We need to be growing, getting better at what we do & who we are.

I must also compliment you on having such a clearly defined “why” – there are so many marketers & business owners who simply do not! You are proof-positive that having a clearly defined “why” will drive you forward until you achieve your dream.

I congratulate you on your achievements to date & look forward to seeing you grow more.

As for Ana & her audit of your blog – absolutley awesome!! Not only will your blog rise to new heights, but through your willingness to share, so will many others, mine included!

    Stay inspired!

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Michael,

Thank you so much for your heartfelt comment. This progress made imperfectly pact I’ve made with myself is definitely not easy, but it’s really working.

I’m growing in ways I could never have imagined when I started the journey. I know my why is the thing that will pull me through all the butterflies and nervousness as I take each step.

I’m so grateful for Ana, and for everyone who has encouraged me.

Your comments do help me stay inspired! 🙂

  10. Hi Heather,

I loved the way you shared your personal story straight from the heart! 🙂

Of course we all want to hear that what we are doing is close to brilliant but that’s just our ego wanting to gloat.

Having someone pass on as valuable a critique as Ana has, is indeed a gift like you say and your response to this shows just how fantastic a leader you truly are.

Well done Heather you are an awesome example for us all!

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Marcus,

      I’m thankful for your response.

You know, so many people hide behind fears that they will look stupid if they try something and don’t do it well.

There’s that whole cliche that we’re raised with that if you can’t do it well, don’t do it at all. How sad that we often forget that no one does it well the first time!

There’s always room for improvement, and we’ve got to get past that cozy comfort zone to improve in any area of our lives.

I’m learning to get comfortable with being uncomfortable, but it’s not always easy. This post of Ana’s is an example of that.

      Thanks for your comment, Marcus.

  11. Hi Heather,

I’m so glad you took her up on her offer. We all got a lot out of those suggestions, and super packed info.

You’re blog is looking great! Not only did you allow Ana to do this for the benefit of all, but you’re putting to use all of her suggestions right away. That’s very impressive.

    Awesome job Heather!

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Susanna!

I’m so glad I took Ana up on it too.

You’d better believe I’ll be working through Ana’s list in the next week or two, to implement every step she suggested.

Nothing much to be impressed about, just doing what I can, with what I have, from where I am. 🙂

  12. Hi Heather,

I loved your story as you could tell it was very genuine and straight from the heart, one that really moves and inspires all of us. Thank you for sharing this very moving post, it helps puts things in perspective.

With Ana giving you pointers on your blog, I know that you can only go up with her suggestions, she knows her stuff and I look towards her for many answer on blogs and SEO! I look forward to hearing more about your enhancements and what you did.

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Thanks Robert,

I know Ana handed me a gift and I’m so excited to have her list to work through on my blog. It’s rather extensive, so I’ll be busy for a while, but definitely worth the effort.

      Thanks for your comment,

  13. hi Heather

with such a powerful ‘why’ you will be successful.

And as you say, it is the limiting beliefs in your head that are the stumbling block. Getting things perfect on an external level is a good thing to aim for. However it will only take us so far. We attract people to us because of what we are inside.

    Congratulations and best wishes
    Charlie Holles

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Charlie!

Thank you for your comment. I know that having a powerful why is the key to anyone’s success in a home based business and I feel truly blessed to have it dialed in and in focus.

Thanks for the best wishes and the comment!

  14. Hi Heather,

I found myself going from post to post on your blog today. I wish I could get a critique on my blog as you did. That is absolutely wonderful because it’s going to make you a better writer and have a more dynamic blog.

Your story was moving and I can relate, except I’m not married. I do this for my children and my mother. I want to give them all everything they deserve so that drives me to do more, even when I don’t feel like it.

Looking forward to more great content from you.

    • Heather C Stephens says:

Wow, Golda. Thanks so much for your wonderful comment!

The critique from Ana was a total gift and I’m so grateful for her doing it. I am sure that even if your blog is not personally critiqued by her, if you follow the critiques she has made and apply the suggestions to your blog you will see results. I’m still working through all the suggestions she has made for me. 🙂

Looking forward to getting to know you better. Thanks for your comment,
