Are Your Posts Lonely? 10 Ways to Get More Blog Comments (Part 2)

Get More Blog Comments: Plugins that are like party favors for your readers! We talked yesterday about the benefit of comments on your blog, and five things you can do to get more blog comments, and today I’m going to share 5 more awesome ways to get more blog comments by automatically rewarding your commentators!

Automation can really save the day, like yesterday when I was playing “Becky Home-ec-y.”  I decided to make the kid’s Halloween costumes this year and my 8 year old daughter wanted to be a bag of jelly-bellies.  I made her costume out of a plastic drop cloth and was planning on filling it with a few dozen balloons.  Well, the balloons I bought were a lot smaller than I thought they were and I majorly underestimated how much work I had gotten myself into.  They ended up being only about the size of my fist when fully inflated and I was so thankful that I had the foresight to buy a hand pump to blow the balloons up.  In the end I blew up over 150 balloons and I could have never done it without the right tool.

Same goes for your blog.  There are so many great plugins that are like tools to help your network marketing blog run more efficiently, be more user friendly, and in today’s list, I’m going to share with you some plugins that will help you get more blog comments!

Let’s think about our blog as a party so we can get more blog comments:

So, you know when you have a party you give your guests a little gift (party favor) as a thank you for coming?  Think of these plugins as party favors for your commentators as a thanks for visiting and for leaving their comment!

Plugins to thank your readers for making blog comments:

  1. Do follow blog – Installing the do-follow plugin has been one of the most effective things I’ve done to thank my readers for making blog comments and encourage more blog comments!  I have created a free dofollow badge in several colors that you’re welcome to post on your blog to let your readers know that your a dofollow blog.  Basically it meas that your blog will share the link-juice from google with your blog commentators as a thank-you for sharing their thoughts.
  2. Comment luv – This plugin displays a link at the bottom of your commenting guests blog comment to one of their recent posts.   This is a great way to help them get some traffic if their title peaks the interest of your readers.
  3. Keyword luv – I don’t think this works with all themes because I have had some issues with it on my blog, but I see it on a lot of blogs so maybe mine’s just weird. 🙂  Basically it’s a way to help your blog commentators receive some anchor text keywords when them comment.
  4. Top Commentators – You may have some blog readers who comment regularly on your posts and having a top commentators box in your side panel will give them a little visibility and reward as a thank-you for their loyalty
  5. WP-Thread Comment is an awesome plugin that serves two uses:
    1. First of all it allows you to send the person who left a blog comment your reply to their comment via email automatically.  I love it when I get the replies someone made to my comment sent to me because I don’t always remember to go back to the blog to see the reply to my comment and I have from time-to-time gone back and commented back again based on the author’s response.
    2. Secondly, the plugin allows the blog comments to be nested under the parent comment so it’s easier to read.  This function is built into some themes automatically, but when I first launched my blog I would get so frustrated that my replies were added to the bottom of the comments instead of below the very comment I was replying to.
  6. Bonus Plugin Tip: Get Recent Comments is another plugin that will show some of the recent comments made on your blog in the sidebar.  This may peak the interest of your readers who see a great comment on a post, to click through and read deeper into your blog.

It goes without saying that commenting on blogs that have these plugins installed is great for you too because it will help you get more blog traffic while you’re helping them get more blog comments!   Ana Hoffman has a great post she wrote yesterday that reveals a great dofollow blog finder tool!   I encourage you to try it out!

So make your blog party a fun one for your network marketing prospects and blog guests!  And remember that attraction marketing works best when you’re a go-giver, sharing value first with other blog owners through your comments, and with your readers by giving them some visibility, branding, and link-juice!

You know what to do now, right?  Leave some blog comments of course!  Let me know what plugins you use, like, love, hate, etc. to get more blog comments by being a go giver and rewarding your readers!  And please share this post with your social media circles so they can get some more blog comments too!

  1. Hi Heather,

thanks for sharing your advice. I use most of the plugins you mention, apart from Keywordluv. I can tell they are very useful.

Halloween seems to be a lot of fun, in Germany it’s a rather recent “invention”, 10 years or so.

    Anyway, happy Halloween !

    Take care

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Happy belated Halloween Oliver!

Do you celebrate it in Germany now?

I’m not sure why KeywordLuv doesn’t work on all blogs, but it’s an awesome plugin for the blogs it works on.

      Thanks for your comment!

  2. Heather,

These are more great tips, thank you for sharing! I love plug-ins and I’m always trying new ones. I especially like the ones that you mentioned though I haven’t tried keywordluv or recent comments yet. I’m sure I will soon!

I just discovered a new one yesterday which I REALLY like! It’s called Thank Me Later and it sends out a thank you email to people who comment on your blog. You can customize it with html and you can ask people to come back, to follow your feed, join your list, etc. I even put buttons on the end to encourage them to follow me on twitter, fb, etc.

      Hi Stacy!

I’ve not heard of Thank Me Later. I use Max Blog Plus Subscriber’s magnet which sends thank you emails when someone comments on my post, but it’s a paid plugin so knowing of Thank Me Later is a great tip for those who are blogging on a budget.

Thanks for your comment…I hope the keywordluv plugin works for you.

  3. Hi Heather,

Oh I love WP Thread Comment! For the longest time I wondered how people did that, and then I finally asked (hah, imagine that! 😉 ), and vuala! It’s a super plugin to get.

Love the list Heather. Another valuable post, thanks!

      Hi Susanna,

Why is it so hard for us to get our “ask” in gear sometimes? It gets us almost everything we want, but for some reason we don’t do it enough!

I don’t remember where I heard of thread comment, but it’s been super helpful for me. I love it when other blog owners use it too, because I can see their reply.

      Thanks for the awesome comment!

      I appreciate you!

  4. Hi Heather great post as usual. It’s never fun to check on your blog only to hear the crickets chirping (hopefully your content is worth commenting on). I like comment luv, it’s a great way to help other bloggers get their posts out there.

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Janet,

Thanks so much for your comment. I love comment luv too…I’m on my way to visit your post because of it!

      Have a great day!

  5. Hey Heather,

Parties are a great way to meet people. So I’m all for turning my blog into a party!

Thanks for the great tips and the plugin recommendations. It’s always good to know what’s working well for others.

As bloggers, we should all do what it takes to get more comments, because that’s what blogging is all about.

    Have a great weekend,

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Wayne,

Party on my friend! I’m so glad you liked the list and I agree that the comments and building relationships with others on our blogs are what blogging is all about!

      Thanks for your blog!

  6. I’m using almost all of those plugins. I’d also add that it’s a good idea to use a theme that has a comment link on the home page of your blog as well as on the single post pages.

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Great point, Richard!!!

I hadn’t thought of the comment link on the homepage of your blog. Thanks for adding value to my post!

      Thank you for your comment!

  7. Thank you for the advice! I really need to do something to get more comments. I’m sure these tips will be very helpful.

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hope they help, Janet.

      Have a great day,

  8. Hello Heather

Thought it was about time I paid a visit. There are so many people who comment on other blogs it takes a while to visit. So glad I chose to visit now as I had completely forgotten about my Recent Comments widget.

Thanks for the reminder and as a side-note all new blogs I visit get featured in my sidebar as My Favorite Weekly Feed

    Dennis O’Brien

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Dennis,

I’m so grateful for you stopping by to pay a visit! 🙂

I’m sorry for not replying sooner, your comment was lost in my spam folder and I had to save you.

I recognize you from other blogs I’ve been on…and I’ll be over to visit your blog asap!

I’m excited to be featured in your favorite weekly feed. I’ll have to come check it out!

      Happy Wednesday to you!

      • Gidday Heather

No Problem, it happens to all of us one time or another. Thought I would come back and grab your RSS for Comment Sniper so I know when you post. Sorry but your a bit late to see your feed up 🙂 you might have to wait for the next round. This week it’s Peter Fuller.

Oh BTW nice post on utilizing local leads. I saved the text and shared it around on FB and Twitter

  9. I use those plugins as well. I’d like to also suggest to readers that they promote their blog posts via their social media networks.

  10. Heather, I found you through Ana’s blog and I am thrilled! This post particularly is quite beneficial for me. We can all benefit from comments and plus, it helps me find new blogs!

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Lisa!

We can all benefit from more comments on our blogs and I love the new blogs I discover by reading comments on blogs I visit regularly!

      Thanks for commenting!

  11. Hi Heather,

I must have missed this post! Thanks for including it in your comment on my blog today 🙂

These are awesome plugins – I use most of them except for one or two.

    Thanks for sharing these.

    All the best,

  12. Great post. I really like the WP thread comment plugin. I actually use mose of them.
I think Comment luv is also a great.

  13. Heather –

My blog theme didn’t have automatic nesting of replies (weird, I know) coded for comments.

Your recommendation of the WP-Thread Comments plug-in was a life-saver. I’d been planning to install a new theme just to have this functionality. Now I can wait a little bit longer before I do a site overhaul! 🙂

    THanks again!

    • I’m so glad I could help, Steve! There are SO many great options out there for plugins to make wordpress do just about anything you would like!

I find most of the great tips by visiting other blogs too!

      Thanks for commenting!

  14. Great information Heather! You are so right on point with this post. Blogging was originally intended to be very interactive and those plugins will encourage us to do that.

I’m off to install all the plugins you mentioned, at least all that will work with my theme. Great looking blog by the way…Nice!

    • Hi Michael!

Thanks! I hope the plugins are working for you. I love how “social’ blogging is and although I’ve fallen behind on answering my comments due to a crazy busy schedule, I think it’s one of the best ways to develop a relationship with our readers.

Thanks for the compliment on my blog. It’s been a labor of love, learning, tweaking and building this business.
