Facing A Fear of Video Marketing for a Network Marketing Internet Business

Are You Afraid to Jump Into Video Marketing? What are you letting get in the way of your success?  I was moved (maybe it was more like shoved) into action to face my fear of video marketing last night after reading two blog posts from new friends Peter Fuller and Josh Garcia.

Resisting Video Marketing:

You see, I’ve been totally resisting video marketing in my network marketing internet business because of two reasons.  First, I’ve always been a little camera shy.  I was a photography fine art major in college and I’m so much more comfortable behind the lens.  I’m also not the most outgoing person in the world, so although I knew that video marketing was a powerful way to lead traffic to a blog, and build a business, I was shy about getting started with it.  The other reason I was resistant was because I have gained weight and I know I’m over-critical of myself because of it.

Getting over my video marketing fears:

But I got to thinking about it last night and realized that not only am I holding myself back in my business, I’m holding back the people I could be helping online with my information and content.  There is a quote that came to my mind that finally helped me push past my fear and get over it!

“He who sees a need and waits to be asked for help is as unkind as if he had refused it.” ~Dante

I challenge you to ask yourself these three questions:

  1. What you are letting get in the way of building your business?
  2. What information do you have that could help others, that you are withholding?
  3. What is the price you and the people you could help are paying and will pay in the future by you not sharing your gifts?

“The value of any individual may be measured by his contribution to the success of others!” ~Albert Einstein

Get Over It!  Face your video marketing fears and reach for your goals.  You were not created to hide behind limiting beliefs!

Enjoy the video…look forward to more videos from me in the future!  (I give you 100% permission to hold me accountable on this!)

If this was helpful to you, please tweet it and facebook it to others who will benefit!  And please leave a comment and share if you will be doing something in your business this week to face your fears…will you be trying video marketing too?  Maybe you’ll be submitting articles or calling on your leads?  Share it below and receive encouragement!  You’re on a DoFollow blog so the link love will keep on flowing!

p.s. Facing my fear of video marketing was really not as hard as I thought it would be and I’m looking forward to facing my next challenge in my business and I encourage you to do the same!

Congrats in creating your first video! The video is perfect. 🙂

Now, many more to come. I can go on and on about the power of this. But I’ll save it for tonight’s webinar. 😉

    Chat with you soon…

PS. Thanks for the mention and trackback.

Thanks Josh! I appreciate the shove!

Good luck tonight, I am looking forward to your webinar!

  2. Hello Heather

Now that was a fantastic video. If you keep making videos like that your business is going to soar.

You already know what makes me uncomfortable and tomorrow night I am going to face the crowd again.

It makes me feel really good that a post of mine inspired you and I appreciate the shout out.

    Your friend, Peter

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Peter,

For some reason you were in my spam a few times. I’m so sorry to not have replied to this.

Your post really did inspire me and I appreciate you holding me accountable! 🙂 I’ll keep up the videos for sure!

      Hope your night went well!

  3. Hey Heather! BIG CONGRATS on your first video! I definitely know the feeling as I just recently overcome my HUGE Fear of Video Marketing. It is something that is so empowering once you have accomplished it and actually a lot less scary then we thought!

You DID AWESOME and looked so very comfortable!!! Too cool!!! 🙂

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Thanks so much Jennifer!

You’re so right, it’s much less frightening now that I’ve done it! It wasn’t too bad…aside from a couple of retakes because my 2 year old kept asking me what I was doing, and making me laugh and lose my train of thought. 🙂 I’m sure I’ll eventually get comfortable enough to just roll with it and keep my train of thought…even if he makes a debut peeking over my shoulder!

I’m heading over to read your blog right now!

Thanks so much for the comment!

  4. Great post, Heather! I agree with you about the need to open up the business. I have a couple of videos that I recorded that I haven’t posted yet because I have had trouble getting them loaded (one is up on my blog), and my fear is that I’m not a very animated person, so I know what it’s like, and I applaud you for your efforts. (Once you see a video on Joe Namath and Super Bowl III, that is when I am going to try to post videos more regularly, because that means that my previous uploads went through.) Your first video was great, period, not just in terms of a first video. I can’t wait to see more!

    • Heather C Stephens says:

You’re so kind, Steve! Thank you for the feedback. PLEASE hold me accountable to more videos, okay?

If you’d like help with the technical stuff let me know. Maybe we can even get on the phone and problem solve your glitches. I’m no expert by any means, but I know what I just did and it worked very easily for me. As far as not being animated, just be yourself! There are lots of people out there who are going to love you and your style, just how you are! I believe that truly!

Get going on it…it’s not so bad after all! If I can support you in this please let me know!

      Thanks for the comment!

  5. Hi Heather,

What a great first video! I love your enthusiasm. I been hiding from the video camera myself lately and and find a thousand of excuses not to make a video of myself 🙂 video is such a great way to market and connect with your audience. So for me no more procrastination and let’s get to work 🙂

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Katherine,

Thanks so much. I encourage you to try the video option. It really wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be!

No more procrastination? Will there ever be such a concept? I feel like it’s a constant battle for me! 🙂

      Thanks for the comment!

  6. Hi Heather,

that is an AWESOME video. I hardly can believe that this is your first one – is it really your first one ? I haven been doing 40 videos in the last couple of months and still feel uncomfortable with video. The hardest thing for me is to hear my own voice, I don’t know why.

Thanks for sharing this exciting video !

    Take care

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Thank you Oliver!

I haven not seen your videos yet since I’m new to your blog but I’ll have to go digging through your archives and find a few to watch! I know exactly what you mean about hearing your own voice. I was forced to get over that early in the game because I always record our team calls for my network marketing business. I hope I get more and more comfortable with video so I don’t have to psych myself up so much to do one!

I’m heading to your blog to check out what videos you’ve done. I’m sure they are awesome and you’re too hard on yourself!

      Thanks for the comment,

p.s. I did record another video for a product review last week, but I never promoted it because I was feeling way too camera shy about it. I actually was going to delete it because I was afraid it was dumb. (See, I’m a little hard on myself too.) 🙂 But then I read Josh’s and Peter’s posts and figured I needed to face this fear and record a real one for my video debut.

Thank you, Thank you… I am going to really get going on my dreams and tackle my fear… I hope you don’t mind, I think I want to pick your brain as I think I can learn a whole lot form you.

  8. Welcome to the exciting world of video Heather. Since youtube is now the 2nd largest search engine in the world, anyone who wants to add another layer of traffic must be doing video.

I do alot of training for various clients and I can tell you that many people do have this real fear about video for several reasons. It is great to see you have overcome it. Now that you have done one, utilize alot of your content and repurpose it with video 🙂

    Have fun with it too..

    DR NET

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Thanks Dr. Net!

I have already started to repurpose some of my content into video and articles. It’s such a great way to leverage the work we’ve already done!

      Thanks for the comment!

  9. Awesome video Heather, i really need to push through and start using video myself, i started recommending using video to my clients and those that have are seeing improved traffic and customer acquisition, for example we built a website for a local electrician a few months ago and i told him we should do an introduction video for the homepage, no one else local was doing this, he is ranked first page of Google for electrician (location) and has started getting increased traffic and clients every month.

highly recommend everyone start using video,

    keep it up Heather

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Thanks Ben,

You are so right, and your electrician client is lucky to have you helping him market himself! Video is awesome. I’m loving the results so far, and I’m seeing a definite increase in traffic from the videos already, even though I only have a few out there!

Thanks for stopping by and for leaving a comment!

  10. Go Girl!! Your video looks great and you are inspiring me. If you ever need any web work done you just let me know. Love your site. I could use some marketing tips!!!!

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Thank you Erica!

I’ll definitely remember that you’re here if I need some web work done! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! I’m so glad I inspired you!

  11. Hey heather… congratulations on beating the fear… feel’s pretty good, doesn’t it? Fear always has a structure (the story we tell ourselves about why we can’t do something). Recognising that this a simply a construct is a big part of getting past the fear (as you seem to have discovered).

Fear of public speaking (through whatever medium) is one of the biggest fears in the western world.

  12. Hi Heather
Congratulations on your first video! The video is wonderful & you’re an inspiration. I am like you, I prefer to be on the other side of the camera (have you seen my profile photo on Twitter?! @BlackHeartJules). While setting goals for 2011 I have set myself a challenge to step out of my comfort zone in a few areas. I’m actually doing one of them now – commenting on blogs – I was never confident enough to do so last year. And you know what? I’m now wondering why I got myself so worked up about! 🙂

I look forward to seeing more of your videos & maybe one day in the not-to-distance future I’ll be able to share with you one of my videos.

    With gratitude,

    • Heather Stephens says:
