Edit Facebook Group Message Notifications to Manage Email Overwhelm

Facebook Group Email Notification SettingsDo you wish you could cut down on the number of Facebook group email notifications you receive from updates your friends make in the groups you are a part of?

The problem with Facebook Group email notifications:

While we love to join different Facebook groups to connect and learn from each other, Facebook group email notification overwhelm can be a big problem, especially if the Facebook groups you have joined are very active.  All the likes, posts, links, comments, and videos can result in dozens of emails per day!

But what to you do if you want to remain a part of the Facebook group and follow what’s happening?

How to adjust your Facebook group email notifications:

I went on the hunt for a way to solve this dilemma and found a simple solution.  Here is a video I recorded walking you through, click by click, how I adjusted the Facebook group email notification settings of a Facebook group I want to remain connected to, so I could eliminate the abundance of emails I was receiving.

I’ll also show you how to place a link to your favorite Facebook groups on your Facebook home navigation news feed page, below your profile picture and links!

So to recap how to adjust your Facebook group email notifications:

  1. Go to your Facebook group
  2. Click on the Edit Settings button
  3. From the drop down box, choose your Facebook group email notification settings
    1. Email me when a member posts or comments
    2. When a member comments
    3. When a friend posts
    4. Only posts I am subscribed to
  4. If you want to turn off all facebook group email notifications for that group you can uncheck the box next to your email address.
  5. You can select when you want to see the facebook group in your facebook home navigation
    1. Always
    2. Sometimes
    3. Never
  6. You can also opt out of facebook group chat messages by unchecking the box next to that if you wish.

I hope this helps to eliminate some of your email overwhelm, while helping you to stay in touch with your Facebook groups! Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think, and please pass this on to anyone who you know might be overwhelmed, like I was,  with dozens of Facebook group email notifications!

  2. Hi Heather, you just made this a lot easier for me, thank you!:)…I am aware of the number of emails that keep coming in, and I guess it’s also overwhelm which stopped me from finding out the solution for it. Simple yet very helpful tips – thanks again.

  3. Thanks Heather, I think perhaps in a week or so, I may look at this, right how i want to have my finger on the pulse (if that makes sense)… but once I have my routine structured a little more ‘like clockwork’… I will get into the habit of making my FB visits at certain times of the day… and I am sure at that point I will be pelting a rose your way for this helpful advice! Thanks ~Jayne~

  4. Hi Heather,

    thanks for sharing this video.

Not only that one can be added to a group without one’s consent – one gets a whole bunch of email notifications in addition to that !

So if someone really wants to annoy people – that’s the way to go 😉

The issue is that a lot of people don’t know what they’re doing and that they’re actually annoying people.

    Thanks again for sharing.

    Take care

  9. Thank you so much for sharing, Heather! One day, I didn’t check my e-mail because my computer was down, and the next day, I had e-mails in the triple digits, and all but about 10-15 were because of stuff people sent on groups! You are providing valuable content as we work to build our groups, and as we get added to other groups.

  10. Hey Heather,

Great Video! I am a part of 25 Groups, and luckily they don’t send out that many emails, but I can understand if a person happens to be part of many more than me, how the continual emails can be annoying.

Thanks for bringing information to the table that will help us control it.

I will put this information to good use!

    Thanks again,

    John Engle

  11. Heather,

Thank you for explaining it so simply! I like getting all of the emails from the Prove It group because it’s easier for me to keep track of which blog posts I’ve visited for the day. I delete them from my inbox as I read them.

But next month I will be involved with another challenge too (talk about challenging!) and I may need to adjust the group settings. The other challenge already has numerous posts per day and it hasn’t even started yet!

  12. Big Hugs to you Heather for the simple explanation. I’m not a huge facebook user but the hubby is. Funny thing is he just starting using a computer 8 months ago. He has lots of FB questions and I can’t always just answer. With all the new FB changes I have to search. We were just talking about email notifications the other day and how we thought we turned most of his off.

You just saved me a ton of frustration and time!

  13. thanks for give these important step for adjust face book group email notification.Your post is great and useful…

  14. The thing with Facebook is that there are always so many settings and ways to change things that it is often overwhelming just trying to find what you are looking for! Thanks for the simple steps, I always love it when I come across a post that I can just follow step by step. I have had this problem before when I made a comment in a relationship forum on Facebook, and yes, for the next few weeks my inbox was flooded with notifications that someone had added a reply. I would much rather prefer to return to the forum in my own time and read the comments if I so wish.

  15. I also hate Facebook groups, my friends keep on adding to such different groups which I don’t like and I always find the solution for it, it is really a big mess for me. My great pleasure drop by here and getting some information on how to edit Facebook group message.. Thank you so much for sharing this!

    • Facebook changes so much so quickly. I’m enjoying fewer emails from FB now that they’ve made their changes, are you?

      Thanks for the comment!

  16. I will always make a facebook groups each friend category. My friends classmates in High School should be in a group. My Friends in college in different group. So this post is helpful to manage different emails from different groups.

  17. Hi Heather- Thanks for sharing this helpful tip and kudos on the use of video in your blog posts! Facebook has made it complicated and confusing to update many of the account and privacy settings. It seems as if every few months, Facebook has another privacy or account settings update. Posts like the one you have created here with a video example are great and extremely beneficial in may ways 😉 Thanks for sharing great content.
