Clever Marketing Tip: Red Hot SEO for Video Blogging

SEO for Video Blogging Clever Marketer TipUsing video marketing is hot, hot, hot right now but SEO for video blogging is not.  You can use seo for video by tagging your videos with keywords, using keywords in the title and url, and using keywords in the description, but aside from that getting good keyword search engine optimization, SEO for video on your blog is not as easy.

What are your choices?

1. Forget about SEO and just embed your video from YouTube, making sure to optimize your SEO for your You Tube Video, or

2. Write a blog post around your video that includes your keywords and keyword phrases, “h1, h2, h3” tags, and alt tags on your images and embed your video into the post.

That’s probably the better option, but sometimes when you’re in a hurry, or you don’t have a lot extra to say that you didn’t say in your video, you might be at a loss for words.

Unless…you use this clever marketing tip on seo for videos I learned from video blogger, Gideon Shalwick!  (He’s got great content his blog for video blogging.)

How do you get great SEO for Video Blogging?

Transcribe your videos to get hot seo for video on your blog!

On a five or less minute video it may take you 15 to 20 minutes to transcribe it. Or you can visit a place like to get your videos transcribed for you.  There are also programs available that allow you to convert talk to type that may be a great option if you end up doing a lot of videos and audios and need them transcribed!

I’ve used it recently and have “embellished” the transcription with a few extra keywords in the headings to increase my keyword density to about 2% and add a little search engine benefit to my post.

SEO for video blogging bonus tip: Cater to 3 different learning styles at once!

Gideon did not mention this extra benefit in his post, but I’ve got you covered with an additional benefit you may not have thought of…

People learn in different ways. Some people like to read, others listen, and yet others are visual and benefit from seeing something.  By transcribing your videos you can cater to all three types of learning styles!

Transcribing your videos will give you a win/win as far as SEO for video blogging but it will also help your readers who are in a hurry and don’t have time to watch your video. They can skim your post and get the content without having  to watch your video completely.

  1. Hi Heather,

I loved this post as I have started doing something similar to what you referenced, I have started taking some of the articles I have wrote in the past and turning them into a slide show video. I know that people learn differently and since I am a guy, I can make this point very easily. Guys learn and can relate to things better with pictures and or videos. I know that I can watch a “how to video” on let’s say wordpress set up. I could read the directions and watch a video and I will learn and be able to re-inact the steps after watching the video. If I only have the text directions, there runs a high possibility of me never getting it. It is just how my brain is set up.

This is one reason that on many of my how to videos I have made are very simple explanations. I like simple explanations and I know that if I do, there are people that will relate to me and how I learn. I look at learning as somewhat like ” we have 5 senses” and there are not a million ways to learn, there are just a few.

Video blogging is hot and as you say it has been hard to rank in SEO but is the only thing we are worried about is SEO, I know you have a huge passion for the reader just as I do. There are many times I let the SEO part go to the way side so I can help my reader become more educated or entertained.

Thank you for the great post!It is time to make some more videos. I am now working on taking my slide show videos and make them actual videos! So as you can see I am taking one message and putting it into 3 different types of format. Hopefully to touch many different people and their learning styles.

Thank you Robert, for the value-adding comment!

I’m a visual person too and although I haven’t done a lot of screen-shot videos I do benefit from watching them for additional explanation.

Passion for the reader is the #1 reason to blog, but in my opinion if you don’t have great SEO on your blog, the readers you can help with your content will not be able to find you. From my limited experience, I believe it takes a balance of great content and seo.

Can’t wait to see some of your videos! Re-purposing our content is one of the best ways for us to get leverage online.

Thanks again for your great comment!

      Hi Josh,

Thanks a bunch. You do a great job of adding value to your videos as well as SEO.

  8. Great information as always Heather. I loved your video too. You hit the nail on the head mentioning the different learning styles and preferences. We usually notice this with our children but don’t always associate this with “big people”. Thank you! 🙂

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Karen,

Thanks so much for your comment! I apologize for the delay in my reply…month close was a bit crazy for me and I fell behind.

Thank you for your feedback on the different learning styles. Maybe I noticed it because I’m home with my kids and all three of them are so different, but it is true that “big people” learn differently as well.

I appreciate you and your comment. Thanks Karen!

  9. HI HEATHER :))))

Great post, I love video marketing.

I created a ton of video marketing training videos
using Camtasia and these tips can very HANDY.

The problem is having trouble finding the videos I created, lol. I lost them and can’t find them on my computer. NOT GOOD 🙁

Regardless of where they are, the tips you laid out can really help anyone using a video marketing strategy so they really should pay attention and take good notes.

    Thanks for the AWESOMENESS!

    Tommy D.

    • Heather C Stephens says:

      Hi Tommy!

I hear you about finding the videos when you need them! I’ve found that I have a portable hard drive that I store most of my videos on so I can find them when I need them and they’re not hogging the space on my laptop. Hopefully that will help you!

I’m sorry for the delay in my reply…month close was a bit hectic, but I want you to know how much I appreciate your comment and enjoy hearing your thoughts on my blog!

  10. Thanks for good advice! I think transcription is the most rational present solution of the problem. But I do hope that Google will soon intiduce a new search algorithm with the automatic search engine transcription of viseo, so we didn’t have to do it by ourselves.
Have nice holidays! Happy New Year!
