How Much Valuable Information Are You Sitting On Because You’re Insecure?

by Heather Stephens · 11 comments

"Are you keeping the information inside your head all to yourself because you are insecure?"How much valuable information are you sitting on because you are insecure?

Is being insecure keeping you from sharing your gifts with the world and earning what you deserve and are worth?

Could the impostor syndrome be holding you back from success in your business?  Take the quiz below and discover if it could be holding you back from success in your network marketing business, and learn how to overcome it!

Self Doubt, Insecure, or Impostor Syndrome?

I recently took a class  on creating information products with mompreneur, Kim DeYoung.  Many other mompreneurs I met in the forum of the class were holding back on getting their information product created because they were insecure and didn’t feel like they knew enough yet.

I’ll never forget the feeling I had inside when Kim told me to create something to help others based on the information I had inside my head…right then…no more learning!  I felt like I’d had the wind knocked out of me.  Insecure?  You bet-cha!

I’d spent the last year and thousands and thousands of dollars to learn how to market my network marketing business online. I’d purchased several domain names, started several blogs, and engaged in social media, but I still felt like I needed to know more and learn more before I could “really” get out there in a big way.

Since that class I’ve compared “notes” with several other network marketing moms and discovered that what I was feeling was universal.  We all have feelings of being insecure and from time to time we feel like we’re not good enough.

This feeling of self doubt, and insecurity, called the “impostor syndrome,” is very common among women.

Are you just a little insecure or could you have the impostor syndrome?

Quiz: If you answer “yes” to any of the questions below, you may have the impostor syndrome.

Do you have skills, knowledge and gifts that you aren’t sharing with the world because you doubt yourself?

Do you feel like you need to keep learning before you start working toward your goals?

Do you look at other marketers online and think they are smarter or more talented than you are?

Do you see needs in your market that you could fulfill, but you feel unprepared to meet them?

Do you worry that people will discover you’re not as knowledgeable as they think you are?

Do you feel like you have to “fake it” in your business?

I so have it!  I’ve been on a mission this year to push past my insecurities and do it anyway, and I can’t begin to tell you the difference it’s made in my business and in my life.  I’m accomplishing more than I ever dreamed I would be able to, and it’s addicting!

There is a quote I love to think about when I’m feeling a lack of confidence in my abilities to do something: “A fourth grader is a God in the eyes of a third grader.”  It also helps me to take the focus off myself and my insecure feelings, and put my attention on someone I can help instead.

Who is out there looking for the information you have inside of you?  How is it serving you or them to keep it buried because you feel self doubt or insecure?  You need to get that valuable information out of your head and help others with it, so you can get paid what you are worth.  Keeping it inside and unused is just down-right selfish.  You could help others and monetize your mind at the same time!

“He who sees a need and waits to be asked for help is as unkind as if he had refused it.” ~Dante

You have what you need inside of you already, to be successful in your online mlm business! Get out there! Start a blog, create an information product, set up a coaching program.  Do whatever will move you forward!  It’s time for you to start playing a bigger game!

Put your focus on others and discovering how you can be of service to them, with the information you have inside your head right now…no more learning!  Okay?!  I promise, it will change your life in ways you cannot expect.

Here’s a great blog post from a, Michelle Rafter, a woman who transformed her life through her blog.  It was very inspiring to me today…I hope it is to you as well!

you choosed here an interesting topic. in case we all have obstacles that we should conquer with no consideration of our fears, limited beliefs etc…

by not doing something that we are capable of that could help us grow we will obviously lose more and more potential!

HI Gerald,

Thanks for the comment. I agree with you. And I have found that when I’m letting my fears and limiting beliefs run me, I make the obstacles I should conquer much bigger than they really are.

Have a great day!

Heather
p.s. My Sunday was great, and very productive as far as family fun time! Thanks!

I think that there have definitely been times where I have stalled in my business because I felt I didn’t know enough. (Granted, there were some businesses that wanted to build someone else up as the expert, but now I am learning that I have to be the expert if people want to get into business with me.) I really liked the fourth grader quote.

You’re so right, Steve. We do need to be the expert ourselves. It’s such a journey of personal growth, isn’t it? Getting over self doubt, increasing our own value through continuous learning and experiences, and using that increased value to help others is the key to success in any business. The more we learn, the more we earn…if you’ll excuse my use of the overused cliche. :)

I can’t take credit for the 4th grader quote, but unfortunately I can’t remember who I heard say it first either, and I couldn’t find a source searching for it online. I’m glad you liked it anyway!

Have a great week!

Oh my goodness Heather. All I can say is that you have hit the nail on the head with this post. So many of us take a look at what’s out there in the Blogging and Business world and think that we don’t measure up.

I think the most successful people in the world are the ones who are NOT self conscious – people who simply leap into Life ready to grab new experiences by the horns and get shaken up a little (just for the fun of it). That is a skill and a mindset I’m actively cultivating in myself, consciously seeking out and doing something new every day. I encourage anyone to try this out. It’s amazing how fasy your life expands and new possibilities open up for you.

Thank you Maya! Stretching our comfort zones and grabbing new experiences by the horns to borrow your words is such an amazing journey of growth! I’ve certainly been “here” for a few months now and I’m becoming addicted to the feeling!

Thank you so much for your comment, Maya!

This is very true and most people do not realize until it is too late. We should believe in our ideas or no one else will.

Thanks Tim!

Hi Heather,
This post is such a breath of fresh air. This is the topic I am most passionate about.

The sad thing is people don’t put value on what they know or have experienced. I like you, have spent tens of thousands learning to become a master marketer. But it still takes putting in the time

I believe all of us have gifts and it is our responsibility to share with the world. Sales and promotion is about what it can do for the consumer. And fear is all about what people think about you.

I have a Ph D. in being insecure and spent the last 20 years in self development and now I coach others. Why? Because I decided to and I know how it feels to be imprisoned by our own mind and I want to empower others to break out and find their potential

Thanks for being transparent, it says a lot about who you are.

best wishes,
Jeff
